about

Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer and T-Kolai join Jerome Sydenham on his Ibadan label for some raw House cuts.

Ibadan has released everything from Jazz to Funk to Afrobeat and beyond. It is a label for lovers of good music, but at the end of the day we all want to just dance, right? DJ Tools Vol. 2 is just that: five club ready cuts to get your groove on to.

First up to the plate is the killer combo of Jerome and Dennis Ferrer. Their fruitful studio partnership turns out another club banger in the shape and sound of, The WJ. A percussive beat wrapped around a heavenly synth groove.

On the A2., Jerome and Dennis team up once again, albeit this time with a dark rolling number, Freekoba. Echoed snares and Dub voices sway from side to side while the bongos guide you through this audible jungle.

Finishing off the A-Side, Jerome decides to takes matters into his own hands with the solo effort, Master Mix. This one is a smooth House DJ tool, with a simple but effective delayed synth melody.

The flipside comes on strong with Kerri and Jerome sharing duties behind the mixing desk for the string laden, Tokyo Dub. A builder of a track that seems to just keep getting better and better as the groove is supplemented by Rhodes stabs, melodic flutes and layers upon layers of ear massaging strings.

The DC area based tandem of DJ Taha and flutist Nicolas Laget, known collectively as T-Kolai, do the honors of capping off this chapter in the Ibadan saga. Their shuffling break beats layered over House drums and feel good organ melodies swim through a sea of Piano licks and rising strings.

Five top quality cuts of DJ approved House with just the right amount of organic flavor to keep your feet and waist moving into the early light.
